Create stylized, expressive VFX for a first-person shooter, aligned with current industry trends. Effects include weapons, environments and interactions, characters, enemies, and UI.
Integrate and configure VFX in Unity (including VFX Graph and Particle System).
Optimize effects for mobile platforms (Android/iOS), considering constraints like performance, memory, and battery life.
Adapt effects for a range of devices (from low-end smartphones to PCs), maintaining visual quality.
Develop reference libraries (collect and analyze competitor styles, concept art).
Design technical implementations for complex effects (e.g., combining particles, shaders, and animation).
Build prototypes for quick testing and iterations.
3+ years of experience creating VFX for stylized games, ideally shooters (FPS/TPS).
Strong knowledge of Unity3D, VFX Graph, Amplify, Particle System, and experience with URP.
Proficiency with tools like Blender, Photoshop, etc.
Technical skills:
Understanding of optimization techniques (overdraw, billboards, atlases, LOD, etc.).
Knowledge of physics and dynamics (e.g., fragmentation, mass, inertia).
Ability to work with animated objects (e.g., animated VFX elements).
Artistic skills:
Good sense of style, composition, and color — able to create readable effects in dynamic gameplay.
Understanding of contrast, visual focus, and other artistic principles.
Ability to create hand-drawn/stylized effects.
Capability to create 3D assets needed for effects, unwrap details, etc.
A portfolio showcasing stylized VFX (with technical breakdowns is a must).
Creative mindset and willingness to experiment with new techniques.
Ability to work in a team, take feedback, and make adjustments.
Passion for pixel/voxel art.
Ability to write shaders without node editors.
Deep technical knowledge.
Skills in frame-by-frame animation.
Ability to draw or generate flipbooks.
Experience drawing by hand on a graphics tablet.
Independence in handling VFX from concept to integration.
