Narrative Designer

APPLY

Cubic Games is a part of GDEV gaming and entertainment powerhouse: Nexters, Royal Ark, Game Gears. We started as a small team in 2012 and have since evolved into a thriving game development studio.

Our mission is crystal clear: we specialize in creating distinctive pixel games. Our team is looking for a level designer to work on our flagship project, Pixel Gun 3D. This popular shooter is played by over 5 million users worldwide every month.

We are looking for a Narrative Designer to work on our new, unannounced project, which is currently in active development. It is a live-service shooter with multiplayer modes (team battles, battle royale), cooperative missions, and advanced interaction with the gaming community.

At this stage, the main priority is worldbuilding: creating the lore, character stories, and the overall concept of the universe. Other aspects of narrative design are also important, such as writing texts for UX, scripts for cooperative missions and seasonal events, and interacting with the community.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop the storyline, deeply crafted lore, and setting for the game’s primary world (worldbuilding), shaping the atmosphere and key elements of the universe.
  • Create biographies and arcs for characters, including their motivations, relationships, and connection to the game world.
  • Integrate narrative elements into multiplayer maps (visual details, interactive objects), cooperative missions, and seasonal content in collaboration with the art and level design teams.
  • Write texts for in-game UX: weapon descriptions, equipment details, event narratives, tutorial texts, event descriptions, etc.
  • Participate in creating scripts for cooperative missions and seasonal narrative arcs.
  • Oversee storytelling delivery through interaction with the gaming community (social events, user-generated content, meta-events).
  • Ensure the quality of texts and their alignment with the project’s tone.
  • Collaborate with game designers, artists, level designers, and UX/UI specialists to create a cohesive gaming experience.

Skills and experience:

  • Adherence to the principles of quality narrative design. Understanding tools and methods for player interaction with the narrative elements.
  • Experience as a narrative designer or writer in the gaming industry.
  • A structured approach to work and the ability to organize and maintain lore-related documentation in a way that is easy to navigate, update, and expand.
  • Proficiency in deep worldbuilding: designing settings, cultures, histories, and world rules.
  • Russian language proficiency at C1
  • Excellent command of written Russian, including editing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge of English, modern pop culture, and slang to ensure high-quality naming for characters, factions, and other in-game entities.
  • Understanding of live-service game models (seasonal updates, battle passes, events).
  • Teamwork skills and a willingness to collaborate with other departments during the development of a project in its early stages.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working on multiplayer-focused projects (battle royale, team-based shooters).
  • UX writing experience: crafting concise and clear UI texts to effectively communicate important information to players in tutorials, event descriptions, etc.
  • Experience engaging with gaming communities through narrative and social tools.

What we offer:

  • Participation in the creation of a new, unannounced project, where your contribution will be particularly impactful during the worldbuilding stage.
  • The opportunity to influence key aspects of the game — from lore to community engagement.
  • Working in a professional team with clear processes and well-defined tasks.
  • A competitive salary, flexible schedule, and comfortable working conditions.
